Homo Sapiens: A social animal
Hello all !
With regard to the topic of my blog, let me assure you that this blog is going to be too interesting and relatable as it deals with the current status of sociality of 'Homo Sapiens' colloquially the human race i.e. us.
The human race have been evolving since time immemorial towards intellectual, economical as well as technological advancement seeking better lifestyle and a better society to live in. Additionally, 21st century has proved to be a milestone in the history of evolution of the world in various aspects which is quite flabbergasting. However, in this macro-canvas of evolution, there stands several questions challenging the very purpose of evolution.
Have we created a good society to live in ?
Have we evolved to be a good race ?
Lets try and unfold the answers to these questions. Primarily, we need to understand the meaning of a society, precisely, a good society to live in. Frankly speaking, there's no definition to a good society.
The word 'society' comes from the word social. Here I must highlight that a society doesn't make people, instead, people make society. A potion of society is created when bonding and consent is mixed into a tribe of people. The quality of bonding and quantity of consent is the criterion for a socity to be tagged as a good or less good society. The question arises that how does a tribe engulf bonding and consent within itself growing it into a society. The answer being the core values and relations among people of the tribe.
I am sure you would agree to the fact that the Indian society has been blessed with one of the finest ethical and cultural heritage among all the respected societies in the world. However, in today's world, we are moving fast enough with such a pace that a big crunch of the population is loosening it's tie with the core values and ethos of our society. Why is it so ?
I have pointed out a few reasons which I believe may have lead to the inception of this. The reasons follow:
1. Education- The systemic structure of education in the country has changed to a great extent. The content of the syllabi is designed in a manner to promote Western style of introduction to literacy. The change can be reckoned with the fact that nowadays, we prefer to speak English over our local languages even where it's not required.
2. Adaptation to fancy practices- Most of the people would be finding it boring and out-dated to live in a society where they have to bow down to elders seeking blessings or to live in a society of 'Simple Living, High Thinking'. Rather, it might be delightful and fancy for them to shake hands falsely seeming to be cool.
3. Lack of Spirituality- Spiritual awareness is as important to a person as is air to his/her lungs. The human soul recharges it's energy through spiritual connect. Disconcertingly, a large number of the Youngistanis do not enter the spiritual alley therefore being unable to harmonize the energy within.
4. Technology- Definitely, technical advancements have made life simpler to go for people and has opened lots and lots of avenues in this growing world. However, in contrast, it also has created a membrane of isolation between an individual and his society as people find it more reliable and dependable than the society.
Now, having discussed the problems, let's move on to the possible remedies through which this gap can be minimised therefore mitigating the anticipated sustainable risk further.
Taking into consideration the above four points, I see a solution which starts from the primary education of an individual. We know that education plays a vital role in one's ethical moulding across one's life. So, the primary education for an individual should begin with the understanding of self-awareness providing a spiritual connect, making them realize the values and ethics of their own culture. It should enable them to connect with the society as a whole making them realize the importance of various aspects of the society.
It should be understood that change is inevitable, and, that change will persist till the end of this mortal world. However, while engulfing the change, we shouldn't compromise with the core values and ethos of the society we live in.
Let's make our efforts collectively towards contributing our share towards creating a good society.
Thank you.
Jai Hind.
